The Vigil Reservoir Drainage Structure Repair Improvements project, undertaken by Civiltec Engineering, Inc., was initiated to address critical drainage issues and enhance the structural integrity of the Vigil Reservoir outlet structure in La Habra Heights, California. The project involved comprehensive repairs and improvement works to ensure the long-term functionality of the existing drainage facilities. The scope of work included repairing the existing drainage structure, constructing a concrete cutoff wall, installing large riprap boulders, and extensive site preparation and demolition activities. These efforts were essential to mitigate erosion, protect existing utilities, and enhance the overall resilience of the reservoir infrastructure.

The project faced several challenges, including coordinating with multiple contractors and stakeholders, ensuring minimal disruption to existing services, and addressing unforeseen site conditions. Civiltec Engineering meticulously planned and executed the project, leveraging advanced engineering techniques and robust project management practices. The team also provided full-time construction observation services to ensure quality and compliance with all specifications. Additionally, several comprehensive drone surveys were conducted to monitor site conditions and progress, providing valuable data for informed decision-making.

After a period of stagnation due to a lack of interest by contractors, the project was revitalized with Sol Construction, a highly regarded contractor, mobilizing to the site from beginning construction to final as-builts and photos documenting the progress. The project also utilized historical photos from 2009 to compare and document the improvements. Ben Tilman, RLS, Civiltec’s drone survey expert and survey manager in Arizona, played a crucial role by completing the drone surveys, and ensuring precise and up-to-date site information. The drone footage captured by Ben provided invaluable insights, aiding in the successful completion of the project. The collective efforts of the Civiltec team ensured the successful completion of the Vigil Reservoir project, reinforcing their reputation for excellence in civil, water, and drainage engineering.
