Puente Basin Water Agency, a Joint Powers Authority between Rowland Water District and Walnut Valley Water District, engaged Civiltec for preliminary design, equipping plans and construction support services for a new well to produce water from the Pomona Basin. The new Durward Well will help maximize the groundwater basin’s production and reduce the local dependency on imported potable water supply.
The scope of the Durward Well project includes the preparation of a preliminary design report and drinking water source assessment and protection report, recommendations for the specific location of the well, determination of hydraulic requirements, and selection of needed equipment. The well’s capacity will direct 1,048 acre-feet per year of additional groundwater flow through a recently installed pipeline to be discharged into the Pomona-Walnut-Rowland Joint Water Line along Fairplex Drive.
Civiltec brings a depth of regional experience to the Durward Well project. Having been a key part of the team that prepared the original Six Basins Master Plan, which scopes the Durward Well project in conjunction with other Phase II developments, Civiltec has strong familiarity with the local hydrogeological conditions as well as long-term working relationships with project stakeholders. Civiltec has also completed over 15 projects for Walnut Valley Water District and over 40 for Rowland Water District, along with several engagements with Puente Basin Water Agency including the review of pipeline plans for residences at Cal Poly Pomona.
Civiltec Principal and Senior Project Manager David Song, PE will serve as lead on the project. A former resident of Walnut for over 25 years, David knows the local water system well and has completed numerous well projects of similar nature in the area. David will be supported by an experienced team of Civiltec staff based in Civiltec’s Monrovia office to deliver efficient, high-quality results in line with Puente Basin Water Agency’s goals.
