Client Relationships Growing Through Continued Design-Build Efforts
Gerhart and Slauson Avenue Main Replacements
California Water Service (Cal Water) & W.A. Rasic Construction Company
In a significant move toward modernizing California’s water infrastructure, two major water main replacement projects have emerged as testaments to a newly forged collaboration between California Water Service (Cal Water) and Civiltec Engineering. Thanks to W.A. Rasic Construction Company for this introduction. The Slauson Main Replacement project in Commerce and the Gerhart Avenue Main Replacement project in East Los Angeles not only promise to enhance water delivery and service reliability but also highlight a fresh approach to engineering excellence and regulatory adherence.
The Slauson project, situated along Slauson Avenue between Malt and Garfield Avenues in Commerce, CA, replaces over approximately 1,400 feet of aging 10-inch ductile iron water mains. A comprehensive submittal—complete with technical drawings, material specifications, and construction notes—demonstrates Civiltec’s multidisciplinary expertise in delivering a robust, durable, and code-compliant installation. With Lead Senior Designer Omner Meza working closely with Staff Engineer Grace Sun, EIT, every element—from precise piping plans and tie-in details to the carefully selected valves and hydrants—reflects a steadfast commitment to safety, efficiency, and long-term service.
On Gerhart Avenue, a 1,750-foot stretch of 8-inch poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) water main was replaced. This project, documented in a comprehensive 100% submittal, demonstrates meticulous planning and adherence to stringent standards. The drawings detail everything from pipe routing and connection strategies to material lists and backfill procedures. Notably, the project underscores an approach that blends innovative design with practical construction considerations, ensuring that the new water main meets both current regulatory requirements and future performance expectations.
The successful submittals for the Slauson and Gerhart projects, overseen by our Project Manager David Song, PE, not only signals critical upgrades to the regional water network but also paves the way for future initiatives under this dynamic new partnership with W.A. Rasic Construction Company to serve Cal Water. By marrying Civiltec’s technical prowess with Cal Water’s operational oversight, the collaboration and design-build delivery method creates water infrastructure solutions that are safer, timely, efficient, and better aligned with community needs.
In essence, these projects illustrate a forward-thinking approach to public infrastructure—one where the synergy between a seasoned engineering firm and a leading water service provider drives innovation, ensures rigorous standards, and ultimately delivers lasting benefits to the community.
