Shari Mateus

Receptionist – MONROVIA

Shari Mateus Where did you attend college and what did you study?
I studied Business at Citrus College in Glendora.

What drew you to working for Civiltec? What do you like best about working at Civiltec (so far)?
I grew up in Monrovia. Previously, I worked in the Insurance/Retirement field and was looking for a change. I searched for a small, successful company located in my hometown and was fortunate to find Civiltec.

So far, the people are what I like the best! I’m happy to be a part of the team. I have also liked learning about the company’s history and services.

What are some of your favorite types of projects to work on?
I enjoy event planning for the firm. Additionally, I like helping out in completing and submitting proposals for new projects, and organizing the office.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
I love traveling! I have been to many beautiful places in the United States, Europe, and Central America. One of my favorite and most unique trips was to Mopan River Resort in the jungles of Belize. We explored the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, and Tikal in Guatemala. Then we tubed through caves on the Branch River and canoed in Barton Creek Cave, which was dark and full of bats. It was a bit tricky in places; we had to lie down flat in our canoe to get through some parts!

We also hiked Chechem Hav Cave. It was a long hike through nasty, sticky mud, but once we traveled deep inside, the cave was full of beautiful Maya pottery – some as old as 2000 years! It was an amazing trip.

Is there a particular hobby, interest, or skill you have that other employees might not know about?
When I’m not traveling, I am hiking with friends or my local hiking group. My favorite hiking destination has been Central America.
