Sara Canché
PLANNING TECHNICIAN – MONROVIA
Where did you attend college and what did you study?
I attended East Los Angeles Community College for general business.
What drew you to working for Civiltec?
I kind of fell into Civiltec. I started working in 1977 for an engineering firm in San Marino, where my duties were to help in the reprographics department and make plan check submittals. In 1981, our Planning Technician left and I was able to take her place. In 1993, after years of experience in planning, I got a call from Joe Valenti at Civiltec who told me that their Planning Technician was leaving on maternity leave and would not be returning. He asked me if I wanted to work for Civiltec, I said yes, and here I am 23 years later.
What do you like best about working at Civiltec?
The thing I like best about working for Civiltec is the relaxed atmosphere. We have the freedom to work without the extra pressure that is common at other companies. The people are nice, too.
What are some of your favorite types of projects to work on?
I like all of my projects, because I’m always learning something new.
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
When I’m not working, I’m at Gold’s Gym during the week and ballroom dancing on the weekends.
