Khandakar Shafiullah

Human Resources Generalist – Monrovia

Where did you attend college and what did you study?

I attended University of East London for my BA in Human Resources and Anglia Ruskin University for my MBA in International Business.

What is some of your past experience in the HR field?

I worked in different industries such as hospitality, import/export, and wholesale/distribution throughout my career.  My most notable experience was creating the HR department all by myself at my previous job.  I also created and implemented the organizational structure for the company.

What drew you to working for Civiltec? What do you like best about working at Civiltec (so far)?

The first thing that drew my attention to Civiltec is that it is close to my home.  The job post was a very close match with my experience, and when I did a little bit of research I saw positive feedback about the company, I applied. I went through the interview process and the more I got to know about the company and its management, the more interested I became in working at the company.

What I like best about working at Civiltec is the positive and collaborative work environment.  It is very refreshing to see management and employees live by the mission, vision, and core values of the company.

What are some of your favorite types of projects to work on? What are you most excited to tackle?

I enjoy working on different projects and learning new things. One of my favorites would be training and development, as it is very important to me to help an employee reach their ultimate potential with the right guidance and training. I also like the recruiting aspect of my job, as it is fun and challenging, and when you find the perfect match it is very fulfilling.

I am always excited about new challenges, as they are opportunities in disguise. Anything with a deadline to maintain is exciting to me, as it challenges me everyday and sometimes pushes me to the limit. I take it as a victory when I finish a project before its deadline.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?

I spend most of my free time with family and friends. I like to go hiking and traveling, and I like to visit new places or countries when I get a chance. I am always interested in learning about people’s different backgrounds and their language and culture, and traveling enables me to do that. I also like watching movies, playing video games, and reading crime or detective novels.

Is there a particular hobby, interest or skill you have that other employees might not know about?

Employees might not know about my interest in different languages. I am multilingual and speak 4 languages fluently. I also learned how to speak in Arabic and draw Arabic calligraphy when I was young.  Right now I am interested in learning how to speak Spanish.
