Julie Padilla is an Electrical Designer at Civiltec with more than 20 years of design experience, including 3 years supporting engineering efforts at Civiltec. With a background in interior design and architectural drafting, she brings creativity, precision, and a collaborative spirit to her role, contributing to electrical design solutions across water and infrastructure projects. Julie’s transition from architecture to engineering highlights her adaptability and eye for detail, making her a valuable asset to the Civiltec team.
What first interested you in moving from architectural and interior design into electrical engineering?
All aspects of the construction industry have always been an interest of mine. Learning gas utility design was a step towards my interest in electrical design.
What has been the most exciting or rewarding project you’ve worked on since joining Civiltec?
Not sure, they are all different, so I have learned so much from each, but the W.A. Rasic Clarifier Lift Station Sump Pump project at a premier resort property in Anaheim near the theme park was a fun one. I enjoy working on the Nevada projects too.
How does your creative design background influence your approach to technical engineering work?
Actually, I have always enjoyed the technical side and how things work as much as the creative side.
What skills or habits have helped you succeed as you transitioned into the AEC industry?
I guess, me just being curious about how things work in the background of our everyday lives.
How do you stay organized and efficient when working on multiple project deadlines or deliverables?
I like lists, so creating lists helps me keep organized and efficient.
What do you enjoy most about working on multidisciplinary teams with engineers and designers at Civiltec?
I enjoy working with others. Sharing ideas and helping it come together visually and functionally is very rewarding.
You mentioned that you love to grill — what’s your go-to dish when hosting friends or family?
I do enjoy grilling, but I think my go-to dish for hosting is pasta.
Football is your favorite sport — do you root for a specific team, or just enjoy watching the game?
I have been a Chargers fan for a very, very long time. I enjoy watching football in general but do love watching the games and making lots of food with my family.
