Staff Spotlight: Carli Monticalvo
Carli Monticalvo is a Lead Engineering Technician with over six years of experience in the gas utility and engineering industry. Prior to joining Civiltec two years ago, she led the Operations & Maintenance Design team at NPL Construction, coordinating with construction supervisors and foremen to deliver high-quality main and service designs. Her expertise in conflict mitigation, project organization, and communication laid a strong foundation for her current role supporting utility infrastructure projects with precision and care.
You’ve now been with Civiltec for nearly three years—how have you seen your role evolve?
My role led to a new position being created which was kind of cool. You are looking at the first lead engineering technician in Civiltec history.
As someone involved with the events committee, how has that shaped your connection with the Peoria office team? How has it shaped your view of Civiltec as a whole?
The connections in Peoria office were already formed before joining the events committee. But the committee has definitely progressed my relationships across all offices. My role in the conflict review team doesn’t allow for much cohesion within the company. So, the events committee has helped me to form relationships with everyone. Well, at least everyone knows my name.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in this industry?
Don’t do it girl. Lol but do it
How did your experience leading the Conflict Review team at NPL prepare you for the work you do today?
Jokingly every employee knows that NPL stands for. They taught me to work hard and get deadlines in. Most importantly, though, working there has taught me that Civiltec is a one of kind place that values every single person here.
What’s been your favorite project to work on since you joined Civiltec and why?
I don’t have a favorite project but if anything, I love all the giving back we do. It makes me feel like we can make a difference and not just get paid to do so with all our design work.
What’s your go-to concert experience or favorite artist to see live?
Any concert at The Van Buren in downtown Phoenix is a must. I highly recommend springing for Mezzanine seats. Private bar, waitress, SPACE, and no one over 5’3 blocking your view since your on the 2nd floor. If I had to name a favorite artist to see would have to be Niko Moon. Seen him 4 times in 2 years and its the best show you could see. His happy-go-lucky, positive vibes makes you feel like you’re on a beach vacation no matter the time of year or venue.
If you could spend a weekend anywhere in your RZR, where would you go and who would be in the passenger seat?
I’d say any forest with me as a passenger princess. The cooler weather, slower pace, amazing views, and the kids jamming out and no service is the best! But you won’t catch me in a tent that’s for sure lol.
