Desmin Fontaine, EIT

Branch Manager

We’re so happy to have you on our team! Now that it has been a few months, we’d love to know a little bit more about you! Let’s get started, shall we?

What did you do before joining Civiltec? (Work/School)

I went to school at NAU from 2016 to 2020 and graduated in November 2020. After graduation, I went to work at a company called Coe & Van Loo Consultants. There I worked for approximately 2 years and then made the switch to Civiltec to further my career as a water engineer.

What made you decide to pursue engineering? (Is there a particular specialty that you lean more towards? Water, wastewater, drainage, transportation, etc.)

Ever since I was 12 I had the dream of being an architect. When I got older, and it was time to start thinking about college, I knew I wanted to do some type of design work. NAU didn’t have an architecture program and knew that civil engineering was the “next best thing.” I took a chance and declared for a civil engineering major and after my first semester, I fell in love with the career path and chose this as the perfect fit for me.

What drew you to work for Civiltec?

I had a friend from college that used to work here a year or so ago, so I knew of the company. What drew me in was the different projects I was talking about in my interview with Andy and Chris. It also seemed like a perfect place where I can grow my career. It’s also very close to where I live currently, which is a plus.

What do you enjoy about your day-to-day work?

I enjoy learning new skills and learning more about design. I also enjoy getting to know more about CAD techniques and processes.

What has been one highlight of the past three months? (A favorite project or day?)

A favorite project of mine so far would be the proposed Arizona Water Company (AWC) Coolidge Airport Storage Tank project. My favorite day so far would be Worksgiving at Wong Jrs or the Christmas Party in Newport Beach.

What do you do besides working?

When I’m not working, I’m either working out, going to concerts, playing video games, hanging with friends and family, or playing with my dog, Mollie.

What is the number one thing on your bucket list?

There is so much on my bucket list but maybe go see the Northern Lights in Iceland or go on an Outback Safari somewhere in Africa.
