Water Distribution System Butterfly Valve

Civiltec Engineering, Inc. is providing support to Mead & Hunt of Middleton, Wisconsin for Arizona Department of Environmental Quality’s (ADEQ) Utility Operator Certification Training. The training is conducted monthly at various locations throughout Arizona, thereby making training accessible to existing and new Water and Wastewater Utility Operators close to their geographic workplaces. Additionally, Civiltec provides the same training services for Tucson Water on an as-requested basis.

Each training session consists of 14 or more hours of in-class instruction using a combination of Microsoft PowerPoint Slides, internet video training modules, and limited hands-on instruction. The classes cover water distribution and water treatment topics including: workplace safety, utility mathematics, chemical processes, water distribution system components, water chemistry, water sampling procedures, the “Safe Drinking Water Act,” equipment maintenance, water treatment plant processes, and utility administrative functions.

To date, classes have been taught in Tucson, Yuma, and Flagstaff. Additional classes in 2017 will be conducted in Pinetop, Lake Havasu City, Prescott, and Tucson. Civiltec will also be teaching a specialized course on “Troubleshooting Wastewater Treatment Plant Processes” at the Arizona Water (AZWater) Conference May 3-5, 2017 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

Operations staff from multiple municipalities, rural water districts, tribal agencies, private industry, and college students are benefitting from the course materials as a tool to prepare them for advancement in their careers. These classes offer a great opportunity for individuals that may not desire a formal higher education to develop the skills needed for a lifelong technical career that benefits society on a daily basis.

Individuals or agencies interested in participating in this training can access the ADEQ Operator Certification Website or contact Civiltec’s Project Manager and Trainer, David S. Prinzhorn, PE, at the Phoenix office (623-582-0970) for more information.
