INTERN – MONROVIA

Where are you attending college and what are you studying?
I am a senior-standing Civil Engineering student at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA).

What drew you to working for Civiltec? What skills or knowledge have you gained from this experience?
The first time I heard about Civiltec was at the San Gabriel Water Forum where I attended with my school career advisor along with five other students. What drew me to seek a position at Civiltec was a conversation David Byrum had with my advisor and the internship opportunities that were available at the time at Civiltec. Without hesitation, I properly introduced myself with resume on hand and had the opportunity to come in for an interview a couple of weeks later. I just knew an opportunity at Civiltec would be a great learning experience along with my curriculum and it would give me more exposure as an engineering student.

What do you like best about working at Civiltec?
I have been working for Civiltec since June of 2017 and my learning experience has been increasing in a daily basis. This is a place where I have been exposed to several projects where I did not have any prior experience. Civiltec has given me the opportunity to learn and gain experience by showing me the proper way of drafting on live projects, proposals, and on-field visits. As a student, that is the greatest advantage: going to school while receiving a more in-depth understanding of engineering.

The best part of working at Civiltec is the feeling of welcome that I have received since day one. I also like that everyone is open to help and answer questions; there is always such great teamwork.

What are some of your favorite types of projects to work on?
As an intern, the learning curve increases by the day and working side by side with the engineers gives me a good idea of what my career future will consist of. I personally like transportation projects due to my curriculum, but is always good to learn what else I can do as a Civil Engineer. And now that I see a lot of water resources plans and specs in a daily basis, that is a potential path to follow as well.

Is there a particular hobby, interest, or skill you have that other employees might not know about?
I enjoy playing baseball, softball and soccer. Another hobby I have is designing and creating shirt prints. That is something I enjoy doing on my free time when I am not too busy with school.
