JORGE MARTINEZ

DESIGNER – MONROVIA

Where did you attend college, and what did you study?
I attended East Los Angeles College where I studied Mechanical, Surveying and Civil Engineering and earned my Associate in Science for Engineering Technology. Then, at Cal State Los Angeles, I also studied Fire Protection Administration, Fire Sprinkler and Life Safety.

What drew you to working for Civiltec? What do you like best about working at Civiltec?
I was lucky to have a few close friends in the engineering industry. I came to Civiltec by invitation from Charlie Divine: one night, he called me up to let me know that Civiltec needed a designer in the land development area. That was 17 years ago and I have been at Civiltec ever since! Working here has given me more knowledge of many different areas of engineering, such as land development and wastewater.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?

When I am not working, I love to spend time with my wife and son as much as I can. I used do a lot of camping and hiking since I like photography and nature. But, the older I get, “hiking” often turns into “walking.” I was also taking square dancing lessons for a while and that is actually a lot of fun.

As a Freemason, I also take a lot of time to help my community in many ways, such as clean-up and community beautification, helping the homeless and general charity work. In May 2014, I was elected to the Sunland Tujunga Neighborhood Council and I am happy to represent my community there.
