Staff Spotlight: Charlie Devine

Staff Engineer

Where did you attend college and what did you study?
I attended Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Central Florida. I studied Engineering Technology and Environmental Studies.

What drew you to working for Civiltec? What do you like best about working at Civiltec so far?
I was drawn by the variety of projects! I came aboard the team in November 1998, so this old dog has been around a while. My work philosophy is “Keep It Simple,” “Question Everything,” and “Always Spell Check”!

What are some of your favorite types of projects to work on?
I have really enjoyed working on pump stations, wells, and reservoirs. My favorite pump station project was the “Nixon pump station” for Valley County Water District; my favorite reservoir would be the “1.5mg Oakglade Reservoir” for the City of Monrovia; and my favorite well was “Well No. 35” for Liberty Utilities in Apple Valley.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
As a single dad, I take a significant amount of time to keep my house in order: cleaning, yard work, cutting the grass, tending the plants, and entertaining the kids, grandkids, and pets! My three kids are Charlie “Boot” Hugh Allen, Dena, and Amber. The furry family of five are: Nugget, a pug mix; Bailey, a Pitbull mix; Pepper and Goku, the two cats; and Blu, the Betta fish. Nugget loves to go for off-leash walks around the neighborhood and being fed Slim Jims on the sly.

I also enjoy staying current with my favorite college and NFL sports teams (Go Gators and Cowboys!), and the SyFy Channel!

Is there a particular hobby, interest, or skill you have that other employees might not know about?
I really enjoy assembling my Star Wars LEGOs, Gears of War, and Halo figurines. Aside from that, I was a softball player for 25 years, served in the U.S. Army as a Parachute Ranger from 1969 to 1972, and traveled around the country extensively as a youth.
