Atenas Reynaga
STAFF ENGINEER – MONROVIA
Where did you attend college, and what did you study?
I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 2013 at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa in Mexico. I recently obtained my Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with Emphasis in Transportation from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Congratulations on earning your Master’s degree and adding to your Civil Engineering expertise! What drew you to this field?
Since I was a little girl, I have really enjoyed math and solving problems. I have always had an obsession of figuring out how things worked and I used to fix stuff when it was broken. After I graduated high school, I moved to Canada for a year to study English; that year abroad gave me the opportunity to realize what my passion was and that’s when I decided I wanted to become a Civil Engineer.
You joined the Civiltec team in 2015, starting as a CAD Technician, and have now been promoted to Staff Engineer. What skills have you gained over the years?
When I first started working at Civiltec back in 2015, most of the work I was doing was drafting. I learned quickly and started doing some design work. Then I moved to writing technical memorandums, traffic control plans, and water modeling for different clients. One of reasons I love working at Civiltec is that I get to do different things.
What are some of your favorite types of projects to work on?
I enjoy working on all kinds of projects, but what I am most passionate about are Transportation-related projects.
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
I love doing activities outside, whether it is hiking, sightseeing, or going for walks. I like to go to places I have never been. I also like to exercise and watch movies.
Is there a particular hobby, interest or skill you have that other employees might not know about?
Believe it or not, I really enjoy cooking! When I am not in a rush, I like to try different recipes. I am also a very crafty person, I love going to Michaels and buy crafting supplies. I plan on joining crafting workshops in my spare time.
