What are your favorite interview questions to ask candidates and why?

“Imagine yourself in three years, what do you hope will be different about you then compared to now?” Asking this question helps me understand the candidate’s ambitions and an opportunity to build the future of our organization. “Tell me something about yourself that isn’t on your resume.” Yes, it’s vague, but it allows the candidate to decide whether they want to share something job-related or not. They may choose to tell me about their volunteer work or that they took time off to travel the world. The way they choose to respond to this question, and the story they share, can tell me a lot about the type of employee they will be and what they will be able to contribute to our company culture. “Why should we hire you?”  It’s a classic interview question, but it gives the candidate another opportunity to share with me what we may not have covered and to see how excited they are about working with us.

What drew you to working for Civiltec?

Civiltec’s mission, vision, and culture is what drew me to work here.  It’s been a long time since I’ve been aligned with all of the values within an organization.

How do you see Civiltec evolving within the industry over the next decade?

Over the next decade, I see Civiltec continuing to stay innovative and competitive. I also see Civiltec growing and being able to stand out from the crowd with a stronger employer brand.

What advice would you give to aspiring engineers or those just entering the field?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, develop a portfolio of projects (something unique to show future employers), participate in every hands-on learning opportunity, learn how to network, and identify people who inspire you.

If you could only eat one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It’s not much of a dish but probably chips and salsa!
