Monks Well Site Development

Town of Prescott Valley

The Town of Prescott Valley engaged Civiltec in 2018 to develop plans for an existing well they acquired from the Fain Land and Cattle Signature Group.  After a year of negotiations with the landowner, they were able to purchase the property as well. The Town split the project into 2 phases to get well into production to meet the demands for the County Fairgrounds and new phases of neighborhoods being developed in the area before the summer of 2019.  The new well provides a second source for the Town and will give some rest to the existing Fairgrounds Well located approximately 1 mile north.

Civiltec developed plans and specifications for the construction of 2,250 linear feet of new 12-inch water main.  The project also included coordination with the local power company, APS, to install three new 4-inch electrical conduits to get power to the well site along with new transformers, junction boxes, and a new switching cabinet at the well site.  A temporary electrical panel was placed at the well so the Town could turn on the well and operate it manually during the peak hours of demand.

The Town engaged Civiltec to complete Phase 2 of the project in the Fall of 2020.  Phase 2 included the final buildout of the well site with a new CMU building, piping, controls, valving, chlorine room, electrical panels, controls, VFD, SCADA, and security fencing.  The high pressures at the Fairgrounds and new Monk’s well required all the new 8-inch piping, CLA Valves, and other appurtenances to be rated at 350 psi.  The operation pressure for these wells is 260 psi.  The contractor was given notice to proceed with this project in May of 2021.  This project was completed in August of 2023 with final approvals of construction provided by ADEQ in January of 2024.

The location is used to host a variety of community events as well as serving as temporary and long-term RV parking which hosts an on-site management office, full hook-up sites available, internet, telephone, and propane refill station. With the growth of the Town, upgrades are needed to keep up with the demands of visitors. This is where the Civiltec team’s civil engineering services come in. The main goal of the project is to equip the Fairgrounds 2 well site with a well pump, control buildings, and site improvements. Our team used the knowledge from Antelope Park. A previous project includes the design of a 500 gallons per minute pump, site controls, building, plumping, site development, connection to the Town of Prescott Valley’s exciting 10-inch water main, and electrical controls. Civiltec provided legal descriptions and documents for the well and site and the ingress/egress and public utility that included the new roadway, water main, and electrical utilities.  The Town used the documents, prepared by Civiltec, to complete the purchase of the land and easements. Southwest Ground Water Consultants provided our team with well and new water source testing, development-related services, and submittals to the Arizona Department of Water Resources.  Civiltec completed all Approvals to Construct and Operation through the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).  Civiltec also provided full construction administration and management during the duration of both phases of the projects.

Our team was led by Richard Aldridge, PE (Previous Branch Manager of our Prescott Office).
