Intern Spotlight: Andrea Chavez
2x2 Andrea-chavez

We at Civiltec are so excited to announce Andrea Chavez’s joining our summer intern program. She joins us from W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University studying for a degree in Digital Marketing and Integrated Communications. Let’s take a moment to spotlight this young AEC Marketer.

Why are you interested in this internship/company/industry, and what skills or experiences do you hope to gain?

I’ve been interested in the engineering industry for a long time because my mom is an industrial engineer. I hope to improve my writing, research, and industry knowledge.

What attracted you to your chosen field within the AEC industry?

Marketing is not something you think is needed for the AEC industry, or at least that’s what I thought. But my previous job at the engineering department at ASU made me realize it’s possible to combine both.

What is your favorite task or skill that draws you to marketing?

I love marketing, especially when I get to use my photography skills and understand consumer behavior and market research.

How do you think an internship will help you academically? What about professionally?

Right now I am taking a marketing class at ASU so this internship allows me to apply classroom concepts in real-time. Professionally, I am learning what it’s like to be part of the marketing department in a corporate setting and all about proposals.

Where do you see yourself after graduation?

That’s a very good question because I see myself doing a lot of different things, whether it’s the AEC industry, education or international trade. I know for sure I want to stay in marketing but I am open to change.

What do you enjoy about your current role?

I enjoy learning something new every day in marketing and AEC, as well as understanding corporate goals. This role is helping me decide what I want for my future career.

What drew you to Civiltec?

Civiltec attracted me because it’s a balanced company, not a startup or a huge corporation, and the internship offers real-life work experience. I feel like part of the company already and I am impressed by its rapid growth.

What are you passionate about?

I am very passionate about enjoying life with my friends, family and cats and not taking anything for granted. Each day is another opportunity.

Describe your previous work or volunteering experience?

In the past I’ve worked as a receptionist, photographer, video editor, barista, marketing assistant, marketing intern, and camp counselor. I like the fact that most of the skills I’ve learned on all of them are things that I can still apply in my current career.
