Civiltec was recently contracted by the City of Alhambra to design and construct the City’s first sewer lining project.

The project will line 1,000 linear feet of existing, deficient sewer lines along segments in Cypress, Essexfells, Vega, and Florentina. The City has documented numerous areas that require a completely new pipe lining, from manhole to manhole.

For this project, Civiltec will thoroughly review Alhambra’s Sewer Master Plan and compile a project base map that shows the street right-of-way and any necessary or conflicting utilities. Then the team will review the proposed improvements in relation to the map to determine the best methods for the sewer line repairs or upgrades.

Preliminary implementation will include cured in place pipe (CIPP) relining. However, after investigation, the team may also utilize pipe bursting, bypass lines, repair couplings, or complete replacement of sections of pipe. Once the improvements have been put into place, the City’s sewer system will be adequately prepared to handle existing and future flows.

Shem Hawes will lead Civiltec’s design and analysis efforts as Project Manager. David Byrum will serve as Principal-in-Charge and Terry Kerger will be the QA/QC Manager. Bed Dawadi and Brian Hellein will additionally support the team.

Civiltec kicked off this project at the beginning of September 2017. The team anticipates delivering the final designs and specifications at the end of October, and for construction to be completed in February 2018.
