Civiltec’s annual “Day at the Races” at Santa Anita Park had its biggest turnout ever in 2017 with over 270 RSVPs! Earlier in the week, the weather forecast had called for rain; when the day came, our group simply enjoyed some cool, cloudy skies. Guests were able to relax at Picnic Area #1 next to the top of the homestretch, wander around the front gate and race stands, and enjoy the Family Fun Zone.

Right before the 2nd race, Civiltec President David Byrum addressed the group, thanking everybody for attending and encouraging everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to build stronger relationships with one another. During the catered BBQ lunch, attendees were given raffle tickets for numerous gift card giveaways. Our thanks to Master of Ceremonies Brian Bowcock for manning the microphone throughout the day, Atlanta St. Martin for taking photos, and Diana Occhipinti for organizing the raffle among all her other logistics duties.

The 5th race of the day was dedicated to Civiltec Engineering. Following that race, David Byrum led a group over to the paddocks to preview the horses for the 6th race and watch the race from the finish line. The 6th race ended up being a photo finish at the line, so it was a real treat for our group to see it from so close!

After the end of the 7th race, David Byrum gave the closing announcement to the group, which was very large all the way until the end of the day. We were very proud to be able to show off Gretel Ochoa and her baby, Jonny Nhac. For those who didn’t know, Jonny was born two months early in May 2016. It was so good to see him strong and happy and Gretel thanked “her Civiltec family” for all their support.

Thank you again to everyone who was able to attend our Day at the Races and we look forward to celebrating our 32nd anniversary with you all next year.
