Sunny Slope Water CompanyCiviltec commenced design work in November 2015 for the Sunny Slope Water Company and their water treatment plant near Pasadena, California. Bed Dawadi is the Project Manager, with several other Civiltec staff members providing design support.

Civiltec is collaborating with the vendor Microvi — a biotechnology company that discovers, develops, manufactures, and commercializes innovative biocatalytic technologies in the water, energy and chemical industries — to integrate a state-of-the-art biological treatment system for removal of nitrate from two of Sunny Slope’s drinking water production wells. Microvi has developed a unique process for Sunny Slope Water Company’s water treatment system; their technology “will dramatically reduce the level of nitrates from a level of 35-40 mg/L to levels below 10mg/L without creating a secondary waste stream.” The vendor has successfully piloted the technology and obtained Division of Drinking Water approval to utilize this technology for drinking water purposes. Microvi is expected to deliver their equipment by the end of May 2016 and the new water treatment system should be able to process 275 gallons per minute.

“This project has been in development for quite some time and we are happy to continue providing our expertise to the Sunny Slope Water Company,” said Civiltec Principal and Senior Engineer Shem Hawes. “We are really excited to work on a project that incorporates some very promising new technology for water treatment. The residents of Arcadia, San Gabriel, San Marino and Temple City will benefit greatly from this update to their water treatment facility.”

This water treatment system update will be made possible through Prop 1 funding. These funds will be acquired through the dedicated assistance of Civiltec in support of this important Sunny Slope Water Company project. In addition to structural and civil design responsibilities, as well as providing designs for power & control integration for the new water treatment system, Civiltec helped ensure compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act.

This is the 14th Sunny Slope Water Company project for Civiltec. In 2014, Civiltec helped the company develop their Water Master Plan.
